Things to know about Greek Island Cruises

Extra night in Athens Prior to the cruise

If your cruise starts from Piraeus and is a morning departure you need to make sure you are on time. Considering that you need to be at the port at least one hour to sailing it makes sense to arrive at least a day earlier in order to e sure you will not miss the ship.

How to get to Piraeus cruise terminal

Although there is both a train station and good bus service to Piraeus it is most common for cruise passengers to get to the terminal by taxi. Keep in mind that if you arrive by train to Piraeus, the cruise terminal is on the other side of the port so you will probably need a taxi from the station to the terminal.
In other words… a taxi or a transfer service is necessary.

Embarkation from other ports (on Celestyal Cruises)

There are quite a few options for embarking the cruise in other ports other than the main port. For example the 7 day cruise to Istanbul usually starts and ends in Piraeus; there is an option for you to start and end this cruise in Istanbul.
Interestingly enough, you could also start one of the short cruises from Mykonos. This allows for many interesting options, for example you could arrange to spend a nice weekend in Mykonos and on Monday embark the four day cruise from Mykonos.
There are many options – we can help set up the best suited one for you.

Extending your stay on a Greek Island (Celestyal Cruises)

A fun thing to do is to extend your stay on a Greek island. The easiest way to do this is to disembark the cruise on the last day. So if, for example, the ship is in Santorini on the last day; you may disembark there and extend your holidays.
Although there is no reduction on the cruise rate, it is cost efficient and time efficient way to visit Santorini (if you did not disembark, you would return to Athens and then have to take a ship to Santorini- all in all wasting both time and money)

What cabin type should I book?

The cabin type you choose depends on the multiple factors most important of which is the budget you have. Obviously a cabin with a window (outside) is nicer than an inside cabin. But keep in mind that Greek island cruises are destination oriented, where the ports visited are the most important part of the trip. This means that the time spent in the cabin is not actually that long especially on the 3 and 4 day cruises.
To summarize; yes an outside cabin is nicer, but not absolutely necessary.
